Best Voice Quality on a small messaging phone GSM?

I currently have a T-Mobile SDA in Chicago. The phone is absolutely great except for the fact that voice quality is HORRENDOUS. This is my first phone with t-mobile so I'm not sure if it's the network or the phone but everyone complains that they can't hear me very well. I didn't have this problem on Cingular on my nokia 6230. I've swapped my sim into the 6230 and am going to see if voice quality on that reports better. The problem is that I'm not happy with the 6230 as a long term solution. Things I like about the SDA

Size -- I'm not willing to go any bigger so MDA, Dash, Q, etc. are not options
Screen -- It's nice having a higher res screen -- 6230 screen isn't big enough
Multiple pop email accounts -- I sms a lot. I need to be able to get mail from multiple pop accounts but I rarely reply to emails.
Google Maps to work -- I use Windows Live Search on the SDA which is better but gmm on the 6230 is sufficient as it supports traffic view. I need traffice view to work.
EDGE -- T-mobile's network is slow but EDGE at least makes it somewhat ok
BT -- I use a headset as well as use it as a BT modem for a Mac
Web -- I do some decent browsing on the SDA and need more than just a WAP browser

while you think this may sound like a business phone, I can't stress how important form factor is. I will not carry a phone any bigger than the SDA.

There is another thing the SDA does which pisses me off. Activesync occasionally, rarely, decided to delete a random contact or two. I find no rhyme or reason as sometimes it is a contact that hasn't been update in Outlook in 2 years and other times it is a contact that is brand new. I know it's a microsoft product so I should have expected it to act like one. It's too bad because there are a lot of things I like about Windows Mobile 5. Before you think this is problem with the Mac, I never sync it with a Mac. I only sync it with my XP box.

These two problems: voice quality, and random contact deletion really annoy me and are completely unexcusable in a phone.

So for somebody who likes to txt, requires pop, bt, but requires small form factor, good voice quality, and would like to stay away from windows mobile, what would you recommend? Oh, and the phone must support vibrate and ring simultaneously -- shocking that some don't....

I'm most likely to buy something unlocked with no contract extension and am willing to do some hacking. I've thought about just picking up a v3i and hacking into it but I don't know about multiple pop inboxes and lack of EDGE is an issue. I worry about the moto phones in general because my only experience has been that they have a very sluggish interface. I'm tempted though because my friend's v3 has amazing voice quality.

I would get a Pearl but I've heard mixed things about voice quality. It's a phone first and foremost so voice is pretty important to me.

I don't need video, music, attachment viewing, etc. but they're all nice and used from time to time.
