Best used car: Mazda Protege or Hyundai Elantra?

For either car, I'm looking at approximately 2001-2004 models.

I'm open to other suggestions, as well! Thanks!
 
Either one, avoid the ones made in the U.S.
The metal corodes more easily.
My Mazda was junked after the radiator blew from blockage of coroded metal. It was basically a Ford level quality.
 
In years past I would not have said this but in the year models your are considering I would prefer the Hyundai over the Mazda for dependability. I prefer the Toyota, Honda, or Nissan myself.
