Best type of car floor mats?

I would like to know what type of car mat is better, the rug type or the plastic one, because I have one that is plastic but it broke after some months of use, but on the other side I had one rug type and it was always dirty and smelled really bad.
 
The heavy duty rubber ones will last the longest but it's just a matter of prefference. The point of floor mats is to protect your floor, so they wear out and need to be replaced every now and then. That's the whole idea. I use heavy duty rubber ones with channels that capture water, so the snow and rain on my boots don't run off and onto the floor, but even these get wholes warn in them after a few months from your feet. Happy shopping..PS. the cheaper they are, the less time they'll last, you get what you pay for.
