Best Tire size for Honda Civic?

I have 2002 Honda civic ex 2 dr. and i need some new tires + rims. I have 205/40/17 on right now but i was wondering what the best size to get is. I like to street race occasionally so i was thinking going with 16's because their lighter or will that be worse cause of the ratio? please help!
