Best speakers to set up in living room (for music, not tv)?

Do you know what kind of speakers are the best?

I don't watch tv but I love, love love music and would like to have a nice set up for my living room (for entertaining). Any suggestions?

I don't know anything about this, so will I need a receiver or what?

Plus, I'm old fashioned.. I don't have an ipod or anything. Still using CDs :) don't make fun of me lol

Or if not a cd player would I need a computer hook up??
