Best Remakes.

OK, their surely can't be too many. So, just damn good remakes/re-imaginings will do. I've not put too much thought into it, but I'll start with:

KING KONG (2005).

IMO these movies are remake/reimagings that stand out on their own.

Fistfull Of Dollars
The Thing
Scarface
The Fly
Dawn Of The Dead
King Kong

I prefered the remake of The Hills Have Eyes over Craven's original, thought the remake was brilliant and beautifully shot.

Dawn of the Dead is another I thought was very good.

The Thing.
Night of the Living Dead.

I have nominated NOTLD mainly because Tom Savini did it. He was linked to previous Romero zombie movies. If those at the helm were not linked to Romero, it would just have sucked like everyother remake of a Romero movie.

Keep it in the family if a remake is on the carRAB.

The Fly
King Kong
War of the WorlRAB
The Thing

(all sci-fi, interestingly)

The Hills have Eyes remake was good, but its sequel was awful!
Dawn of the Dead was pretty good, but it pales into insignificance when compared to Romero's original.

I thought 310 to Yuma was excellent, but I didn't know it was a remake.

Can't say I've seen a good remake. I thought Dawn of the Dead was quite good, not a patch on the original but good all the same, other than that can't think of any.

yeah, I agree. I think it is a great zombie action movie in its own right but the worst thing they did was to call it 'dawn of the dead', which means it is always going to be compared (usually unfavourably) to the original.

the remake of Assault on Precinct 13 was (in my opinion) a great remake as it didnt take anything away from the original (if anything, it made me rewatch and reappreciate the original) and added its own take to the premise.
