best place to buy a betta fish?

i am looking to buy a beautiful betta. I dont want a plain looking one. Wheres the best place to find an amazing looking Betta? If i go to a chain would Petsmart or Petco be better? If i go online where should i go? Also if you could find any local fish shops in northern Virginia/DC area.
