Best phone from Asia (Taiwan)

Hi,

I have a unique opportunity to acquire a phone from Taiwan and I wanted to get some advice from everybody. I plan to use the phone in the U.S. so any suggestions or tips on what US service provider I can use would be useful.

Here is what I'm looking for/concerned about:

1. Price is not too much of a concern (I'm not rich by any means, but I figure this is a unique opportunity I would like to take advantage of)

2. I would like something with a large memory capacity or ability to expand. I can imagine loadings things like video clips, games, photos, or maybe songs.

3. Which leads me to the issue of a music player. It would be nice to have a music player, but it's not the most important thing. A "nice to have" if you will...

4. I think Bluetooth is pretty important (I would like to get a bluetooth headset eventually). IR would also be nice so I can sync it with my computer.

5. Which leads me to, should it be a smart phone. The smart phone is not that important, just storing addresses and phone numbers (a pretty basic function I would think).

6. Finally, I think having high speed wireless internet access (e.g. 3G) would be a terrific plus. Does anybody know if I can use 3G network with a phone from Asia?

A general comment about my possible usage. I don't type that many text messages or plan to use it for emails too much, but a cool (small) phone that not too many people in the US have and would fit in my pocket would be nice.

Thanks in advance for everybody's help!

PS I did think about the iPhone but I'm concerned about $$$, battery life, would it work after I cancel Cingular service, etc..

If the phone is a quad band GSM phone, it should work on Cingular or T-Mobile. Note that I said "should". Don't expect any non US CDMA phone to work or be allowed on Verizon or Sprint.

Don't expect to receive any technical support of any kind however, since the phone is not a US version, and not one available from a US carrier.

IMHO, anytime you try to add something that is not for use in the US, you are asking for trouble.

i went through the same thing as you when my brother went to asia for a month. i was looking at htc, nokia, sony ericsson, samsungs and even gigabyte. after debating for over 2 week i had it narrowed down to one company which is the Nokia.

At the time the n95 wasen't out and since the phone in canada bites i wanted the latest and greatest so i was torn between the e65 and the n93i and n95 (which wasen't out so it wasen't much of a choice). Both of the phones has it pros and cons one of the factor i choose the n93i over the e65 was because of the camcorder and the mirror finish (yes i am a sap for looks). the e65 is also a very nice phone the cam isn't as nice as the n93i no fm radio and no tv output but both of them are s60v3 with wifi and has so many features and addition that will just make you sick of look at www.handago.com for apps.

well the best phone it's the n95 but the phones you find in asia and the phone in na are pretty much the same due to importers.

i'd say go for the e65 there no fm radio but there is mp3 player, not too expensive, wi-fi!!!!, built like a tank, smartphone and it's slim.
