best phone for under $50 (Alltel)

It's time (finally!) for a new phone. I love my old Nokia, because it's indestructible, but it does NOTHING.

I have pretty basic needs - I want to get good reception, good battery life, don't want the phone to be gigantic (preferably small enough to comfortably fit in a pocket), and I think I'd like to have Bluetooth so I can transfer wallpapers/ringtones to my phone. I'd also like to be able to assign certain ringtones for specific caller IDs. I don't really text much, nor am I going to really listen to music on my phone...that's what an iPod is for.

So, I was looking at the Razr V3m, the LG AX8600 (if it does end up coming out this month), and the Nokia 2865i - it's bigger but it does have Bluetooth, and I've been pretty happy with the ruggedness of my current Nokia. I'll have to go to the store and play around with them, but I was just wondering which y'all think might be the best.

I think all of the ones you're thinking about are good phones. But a word on the Nokia 2865i, it's not really a Nokia. It's actually a Pantech phone with a Nokia logo slapped onto it. Nokia isn't making any CDMA phones right now. It's still a good phone, I actually have a family member on my plan with one, it's just not a legendary Nokia.

The AX8600 looks like it's coming out sometime in the middle of the month and it looks very sleek. The V3m is another good option. You may also want to look at the Samsung U520, I've heard it's a good step up in the Samsung line although I completely understand how the Samsung reputation for durability isn't quite up there with Moto and even LG. I'm also not sure if you can assign ringtones to a number on it but I would think that it would offer that.

If I were choosing, it would be the 8600 first and the U520 second, just because I don't personally like the candy bar phones like the 2865i and it seems like everybody has a Razr, while the 8600 is suppose to be the phone that Alltel is going to push hard in their ads. But then again, that v3m would probably fit best in your pocket. It seems like most people I know with a V3m do complain about it's battery life though. I know it's not quite up to the E815, I think it has a smaller battery in it to accomodate its size.

I guess in the end, it seems like all the phones match what you want, it's just a matter of what you prefer style-wise.
