I'm looking to replace my stolen bike, and can justify spending up to £250...
I hear that prices should start to drop around now, so I'm looking to buy something in September or early October. What would you recommend?
My last bike had the following features, and I'm keen on getting the same from it's replacement:
- Aluminium frame. Lighter == better.
- 'Rapid-fire' gear shifters. I liked these because gear changes were reliable, not the "sit-down-before-you-change-gear, in-case-it-throws-you-off" affairs I've previously encountered. I'm not sure they were even solely responsible for this improved performance, but I'd tried new chains, cassettes, and even derailleurs with no luck. Basically, I want a reasonable quality drive-chain.
- Cable disc brakes ... I loved these, because they were a lot less temperamental than rim mounted v-brakes.
Any advice would be appreciated!
