i have been riding a yamaha 50cc jog, which is great for the suburbs but I am about to go for my R license. Which is better: a scooter (which I like for storage) or a bike? I am 158cm tall and would want one with a suitable seat height. The bikes/scooters I have been investigating are all yamaha (great after sales support) and are the cygnus, BeeWee 125, V-Star 250 and Virago. I also looked (on the internet) at the Scorpio but they seem to be as rare as hen's teeth. I want something bigger which will allow me to make the occasional trip from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.

I ride a Yamaha motorcycle here in the USA, and have great confidence in their quality of design, construction, and service.

The rules for choosing, are pretty much the same regardless of your gender. It really boils down to your height and weight and intended use. It's got to physically fit your body, and have more than enough power to accomodate the type of riding you do.

I'm not familiar with most of the models you mention. But assuming you are a normally sized woman in your late teens or early 20's who wants to drive on city streets and highways/city freeways, I would steer you to the bikes with the larger motors. Sometimes you need a little extra horse power to get out of dangerous situations, and on a highway at higher speeds, a 125 may not have that extra "Push" you need in an emergency situation.
