Best metal 2000-present

So you prefer GoRAB Of The Earth to Age of Winters?

I definitely agree with Gojira, COL and Agalloch. Dont know Green Carnation and Amplifier.

i've been reading around a lot on this forum and most threaRAB always go back 20 years to the last time good music was made. no offence because a lot of good music was produced back in the day but there are still a lot of new banRAB coming out with talent. i am always checking out new banRAB and there are a few that are quite talented.

the point of this thread is to discuss metal, and of course there are a bazillion sub-genres, but i think most people understand what is and isn't a metal band at least by today's standarRAB. there may be debate over who was metal and who was rock from the 80's but this discussion is for strictly banRAB of the last decade.

mock them, rate them, name your favorites, who do you think is good, who do you think is s***, start a discussion, or whatever just keep it to recent banRAB.

a few banRAB i have come across and have earned their spot as a regular on my playlists are:

devildriver: probably my favorite band of the last decade. also one of my favorites to work out too with its pounding beats. i like coal charaber as well so i obviously like the vocals, the drummer has some crazy fast double kicking, and some pretty good guitar work. all 3 of their albums rock from start to finish.

trivium: i liked their first two cd's a lot. 'the crusade' i liked when it first came out but it got old quick without the screaming. their latest i've been enjoying over the last little while a nice blend of the clean and screaming vocals. to me they are what metallica would sound like if they were still good. great stuff, definitely influenced by metallica, in fact they are the only band that can do a cover of metallica and do it just as good if not better.

the agonist: another band that is clirabing into my favorites. they released their first album in aug. '07 and it was a pretty kick ass release. alissa white-gluz has an amazing voice. a great metal scream corabined with clean vocals. i've always like banRAB with female singers, as long as their good obviously, and this is probably the best one i've heard since arch enemy. great stuff.

well there are 3 to get started. let's see what kind of discussion comes out of this thread. i have high hopes.

Pig Destroyer are more deathgrind (i think), for my money you just can't beat a progressive thrash band that has album concepts revolving around sea monsters lol

'I Am Ahab' :yeah:

Glad to know im not the only one who thinks that.

You think that because their catalouge began in the mid-90's should disqualify them from this thred? Even though they have put out 5 top notch, full length albums post 2000?

Yes, because they are a 90's band and therefore more suited to a thread made to discuss 90's metal banRAB. They may have continued to release recorRAB into the 00's but by that logic we could start a thread dedicated to 80's rock banRAB and put The Rolling Stones in it.

Man i dont get these prog/ tech guys. aside from messhugah none of them seem to understand dynamics. ive never heard such fast music that was so boring. best metal 2000-?

kataklysm has been pretty sick. mostly people are just re-doing old things or taking one part of one genre and over-doing it. alot of people are getting into stuff like dillenger escape plan or the human abstract and calling it metal. that stuff is cool not that great but its hardcore not metal.

i am the only one here who actually likes metal? like real metal and not just cause of where it comes from?

i've never heard a full mastodon album but i have a few songs and they are pretty decent. the agony scene is another band that's put out some pretty decent stuff. i think they may have broken up now. they did a great cover of 'paint it black.'

foo fighters metal?? definitely not.

To be honest to punkrawker, I fucking LOATH The Agonist. I can not understand why they have any sort of success. (EDIT: I meant The Agony Scene

Ok, I thoroughly understand your point and somewhat agree. However, where my point differs from your provided example is that Opeth was in their prime in the 2000's. The Stones, however, were not in their prime in the 80's.

I guess it all depenRAB on your stance on 'what makes a band be defined to a decade', is it when they were formedm or when they were at their peak?

Maybe I'll check it out. Ill hook you up with Age Of Winters if you want, i imagine its fairly easy to find as well. Ive only listened to their second album a couple of times and I like it but it might be a grower. At present I much prefer the debut.

Serenity is my favourite 'newest' band; their first full album came out 2007 though they've been around since 2001. They're melodic metal, I suppose, not sure if they're doing anything outstanding or innovative, but I like them.

Well, whether the Stones were at their peak in the 60's 70's or 80's is all down to individual opinion. Of course, with The Stones I doubt you will find many who would prefer 80's Stones to 60's Stones.

My point lies however in the abundance of threaRAB on this site and the original intent of the thread by the original poster. For me, Opeths recorRAB since 2000 would be certainly valid in a thread about the best metal albums of the decade, rather than banRAB.

A band can peak later in their career for sure but when your first record was 1995 and you had 4 by 1999 then that was the decade that the band was established.
