best horror films

i have never been a huge fan of horror films because i have always been to scared of them. i am starting to get better with them now and i was wondering what good ones are that aren't to rediculasly scare. i am okay with gore (i watched both final destinations without any problem) but anything that is too supernatural does me in. any suggestions???
 
See the original 1963 version of The Haunting (not the recent feeble remake) and you'll be sleeping with the lights on for a month.
If that doesn't work try Night of the Demon, The Seventh Victim, Curse of the Cat People or The Legend of Hell House.
Also recommended: Ring, Dark Water (original Japanese versions) and Whispering Corridors. :eek:
Most modern horror movies get by on blood and shock tactics: they make you jump but they're not really scary.
Scary is when the lights are on, days have passed and it's still in your head.
 
The Omen, see it before the remake gets made! idiotic producers. Great atmosphere.

The Cat People, see that before the sequel Curse of the Cat People, Cat People is the most creepy out of the two.
 
I think Curse of the Cat People is a much better, if slightly less creepy, movie than Cat People. Leopard Man is pretty good too. In fact all of Val Lewton's horror movies are worth a look. :)
 
If The Stone Tape is still available on dvd, watch it in black and white: like Hammer films, it's much creepier without colour. :eek:
 
1. The Forgotten - 7/10 its a good horror flick but the ending didnt make sense to me, they left it wide open for a sequel.

2. The Exorcist - 8/10 scary and terrifying at the same time, but some people disagree.

3. The Blair Witch Project - 9/10 From start to finish a scary film that might have you on the edge of your seat shaking and scared.

4. Children of the Corn - 8/10 those kiRAB are creepy.
 
The Blair Witch Project the first time you watch it is good. I didn't really no much about you and that film was very creepy. The best thing was you never actually saw anything that was that scary.

I'm not sure of the name of this film. Peter cushing owns this antique shop, with cursed objects. It's 4 short stories and the last story is called 'The blue room'.
