Best/hassle-free way to sell my used car?

I bought an old used car for my four month stay in Los Angeles for an internship. When it's time to move back to Boston I need to get rid of the car as I won't be driving back, I'll be flying. I want to make at least a few hundred on it considering I spent $1,500 on it, but I need it done quickly and hassle-free so to speak. What do you guys recommend I do? Is selling it on craigslist a dumb/dangerous idea (I've heard some crazy stories about craigslist) and what do I need to do in terms of paper work and getting it in their name/making it legit. Sorry, I'm new at this obviously. Thanks!

Cragislist is a great place to generate a lot of leads, but you'll still need to go through the rigmarole of making yourself available to show it and so forth. You may be better-off simply approaching new and used car dealers and asking them what they would pay you on-the-spot. What you don't net in cash you can certainly save in time and hassle.

Depending upon its fair market value, you may also do well to donate the car to an established charity if you can take the tax deduction. Again, you may net less cash, but it's certainly an easier and less expensive route.

If you're intent upon selling it for the highest dollar, I'd recommend at LEAST buying a cheap disposable cell phone. The last thing you want is your phone number in the hands of people you don't know who you've spoken with. You may also consider free bulletin boards at your local church or community center.

If you want to cast a wider net, you can always invest in an a paid autotrader.com advertisement or even list your car for sale on eBay with a "Buy it Now" fixed price.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.
