best freestyle bike for sons first?

want to get son (13) freestyle bike. he wants new gt but we are having trouble deciding what would be best for a first.he wants it for street and park riding.any suggestions with reasons why?i'm not familiar with all the new stuff. theres half a dozen plus...performer,slammer,thumper,el centro,etc.
 
A lot of my friends who ride bmx freestyle prefer haro bikes but some of them like gt. that was when we were younger around 13 now they are all into dirt bikes and what not but if he isn't going to be doing tricks and or competing then the bike will get old fast because they are actually pretty small and are uncomfortable to ride around town and what not.

I hope he has fun and finds the right bike.

btw ride have him ride the bike around the parking lot or something before he buys it and see how he likes the breaks the feeling of the bike on turns and make sure the bike doesn't have a kick stand because it interferes with moves.
