Best (free) html editor for PCs?

I need a simple, basic html editor, mainly for replacing content from old pages and re-posting them. I prefer to be able to view the actual code as well.
I've tried a couple (like alleycode) that seem to work out, but when I open old pages on them, all sorts of strange code appears that wasn't there before. I also tried DLing Komposer and couldn't seem to unpack it?

So who knows the best, free html editor for a PC?

Have you tried Microsoft FrontPage? FrontPage is a web development program that is free with Windows. However, it is not the best. The best program to use is Adobe Dreamweaver. No, it is not free, but if you torrent it, it is.
Good Luck!
