I've been using an Audiovox SMT5600 with Cingular. I'm in the middle of a contract so I can't change services.
What's the best phone out there, money no object, that will run on Cingular that has the easiest/fastest web browsing capability?
It looks to me like the Nokia E61 or E62 is the hands-down choices right now after reading many reviews. It looks like the trade off is the E61 has wi-fi but uses a separate charging port and pop-port for data where the E62 does not have wi-fi but uses a mini-USB for charging and data, and a standard mini headphone jack, hurray!
Granted bringing the USB cable that has the two plugs on the end (charging and pop port) wouldn't be that big of a deal and I'll never use the mini-jack the question becomes how imporant is Wi-Fi?
Most of the times that I need to get information off the web, I'm not in range of a Wi-Fi network. Plus you usually have to pay a connection fee for whatever network your using (in the airport, hotel, cafe, etc.). Considering more than half the time I'll be out of range of Wi-Fi when I want to browse the web, it seems the E62 would be the better choice - but is it going to be SLOW like my SMT5600 and in situations where I can access Wi-Fi will I be sorely dissapointed I got the E62?
Is there another phone out there I've overlooked?
I'm not a heavy business user that needs to read/reply to e-mails all day while traveling but I am an Internet Consultant that goes on a lot of vacations. Typically I just use my notebook in the airport or hotel room or condo. The SMT5600 has performed well for me. It's small, synchs easy with my Outlook mail/calendar, charges from USB, pulls up the web page showing the traffic, etc.
Where I'm repeated frustrated with the phone is the web browsing. I find myself many times wanting to browse the web to get directions, read restaurant reviews, etc., but on this phone the browser sucks and the connection is too SLOW.
I'd also like to have a phone that is capable of running good real-time GPS software (I realize I need for most phones a bluetooth GPS receiver). Not sure how well this phone would do that.
Help!
