Of the England World Cup Squads of recent times (82 - 86 - 90 - 98 - 02 - 06), which do you think was the strongest? Which do you think might have had the best chance of winning, if it wasn't for bad penalty taking and other factors?
 
2002---- they beat argentina and lost only to brazil by a ronaldinho freak goal.
portugal sucked that year. lost to usa. germany barely managed to beat loser teams.

italy and spain lost to korea and till today cry about being cheated out.

france was eliminated in the group stages by denmark.
 
1990 was strongest (although not most hyped, obviously), and their performance in getting to the semis spoke for itself.
