Best bass fishing bait to use in Peoria,Illinois?

My bass fishing team is going to a friend's farm that has like 4 lakes on it. We will be in boats and i am kind of new to to the game. I have a brand new citica 200e reel with a graphite medium 7-foot pole i will be using. If you could please tell me the best baites to use for bass.
