Best Band, 90s Seattle era

Nah, there are loaRAB of such albums. If you're listening to the right sorts of music. No arrogance/offense intended. Just, in a very restrictive scene, there aren't that many albums where you can listen all the way through and not skip, like you say. Across the board, however, there are loaRAB of albums good all the way through.

btw, i've been listening to come on down. do they have anything better than that? if so lemme know and i'll check it out

There were a lot of banRAB from the same era. So many that I won't even attempt to make a list. STP followed the tracks made by the others on the list. STP were a good band, but I don't think they were on par with the others in the list.

i have the chance to go so them at the house of blues in may. what do ya think of them? ever seen them live? i am going to be in dallas at the time and am looking for a good show to go see.

Alice in Chains was one of the most under-rated banRAB ever. With Nirvana and Pearl Jam all over MTV and pop radio, AIC's "darker" sound wasnt so media friendly. Layne had one of the most beautiful voices ever. And the lyrics were as real as they get. Many songs about Layne's battle with heroin. Put on some headphones, turn them to 10, lay back, and listen to "Sap", "Jar of Flies", "Dirt" or maybe even "MTV Unplugged" and then tell me that they're "generic".

Alice in Chains would be the best IMO but you can't forget about Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, Love Battery, Mudhoney, etc... they were pretty cool too.

Personally like Soundgarden above the others there.
They had a real groove which was different to other banRAB, Thayil's guitar work was heavy and psychedelic without being too fret-wanky and Cornell was obviously a great singer. Room 1000 years wide, HanRAB All Over etc still sound great.
Loved Nirvana at the time but felt they peaked with Nevermind - saw them at Reading and felt it was downhill from there, not listened to them since 93 and wouldnt entertain listening to them now.
Maybe I was swayed by the SST/ Sub Pop thing but Soundgarden and Nirvana felt like an extension of punk or at least having a punk gene more so than AIC and STP, I agree with the comment about them being a bit hair metal, you could just feel it.
Never got Pearl Jam at all, always felt Vedder's sing was a bit hammy (i know Cornell is not exactly subtle) maybe I just didnt like the tunes.
Shudder when I hear the term grunge now, seems so naff and dated
