Benign reactive lymph node

I got a fine needle biopsy on a lymph node in my neck a little while ago because the lymph node was a little large, and was there for a very long time (with no changes). I got the results last week, and my ENT said it was a benign reactive lymph node and not to worry about it. He told me to just keep an eye on it for any changes in size and so on and to come back for a check up in 6 months.

Just wondering what exactly this means? What is a benign reactive lymph node?
