they perish so new belts every two years regardless of mileage
so if the bike has been sat and not run for any length of time then it is highly likely that the teeth will strip from the belt.
un like other bikes the DUCATI is set up that once you've just touched the starter it spins the starter automatically and doesn't stop.
I've seen 2 year old DUCATI's where the bikes have been stood still for month on end EAT THEMSELVES !!! it is NOT a pretty sight. or sound... as in those fIFTEEN short seconds the belt snaps the valves stop open and the pistons driven by the crank and starter punch SH!T out of the valves and head.. Once PRESSED THERE IS NO STOPPING THE STARTER.. be warned!!!
2 x £35 plus an hours labour for new belts is cheaper than £1,400 for a complete engine rebuild
