How is it that Bell can offer the Sports packs, (NFL, MLB, NHL, NCAA, ect...) as pay for each packs when cable offers the same as a bundle. I'm sure I'm off by a little here but with Bell they want around $700 for the sports channels listed above where as cable offers them for $360 ($30X12) AND you get NBA, Nascar. How is this ok with the CRTC? Would it be ok for bell to charge $50 for TSN? I'm at the point where I feel I need to switch, in the past I put up with only paying for NFL because I owned the boxes 4 of them. Now with me facing upgrading to HD I think the time has come. I'm just mad that my Bell boxes with be of no value anymore when I switch.

I know of many people who don't have Bell just for this reason, why are they so blind to the fact that they make less money this way. Take me for example, I'd pay that 360/year, instead I've paid them 180 for NFL only. I feel I have no choice but to switch, and the internet and home phone will go as well. I just think Bell is crazy with their sports ppv prices.

Am I alone on this? Or have all the other sports fan already left?

I think you are in a real small percentage of sports fanatics. I like most of the sports you are talking about, but can get my fill of them from my already bloated $100+/month bill...I'm sure that Bell believes they will make more money with the current setup, or they would follow the cable model you mentioned. If enough people speak up/cancel because of this, things may change, but don't hold your breath. Check out Roger's HDPVR before you leave, as the interface looks like it belongs in the early/mid 90's...
P.S. Nice nic

Totally agree I love my TV. $360/yr on cable vs $700+ through Bell.
Also, what channel is Nascar on tomorrow ? Can't see it anywhere on my guide. If its because its only on the Nascar in car package then yet there's another reason the bundled Sports Pack is the way to go. Damm you BEV.

Bell does offer more HD sports than the other providers and not all cable companies have super sports packs. Shaw doesn't for example.

When I left EV there were rumours that they will offer "bundles", like competition is doing...

A year later still nothing...

As an EX EV AGENT I could say the percentage is probably higher than you think... Lots of clients have Nascar + NHL Center Ice + NFL Sunday Ticket. I even saw in the West some clients that had all those + Canucks PPV package, or + Flames PPV package

I agree with you man. I have always felt I am getting shafted by not being able to bundle in a sports pak. I currently have nfl, nhl, and mlb. I think I will be dropping the the nfl package as the cost comes close to $600 per year for all three packages. If I could get rogers, I would consider it for the monthly sports package for $30 per month for what would be more sports. Unfortunately, I live in Shaw land.

Absolutely disgusting that we get ripped off on the Sports package.

But we are also getting ripped off with no "on demand" movies included free with TMN or MC.

Dean W, can you clarify how Bell offers more HD sports than other providers, or have you been buying into the marketing a bit too heavily?

travisc, I suspect in Shaw country, Bell does offer more sports but I don't think its the case in Rogers Ontario.

Star Choice and Shaw had 2 NHLCI HD channels last year. Bell had 4. Bell has 6 MLB EI HD channels this season. Bell has 2 NCAA HD channels. Bell had more NFL ST HD channels than Star Choice and Shaw. I believe the same holds true for Rogers and the like.

How many HD channels are in Rogers MLB EI package? NHL CI package?

EDIT- Judging from Rogers schedule in Ontario, Rogers has 3 MLB EI HD channels currently. Not all Rogers areas will have all 3 channels.

Rogers in Ontario and NB have got 8 HD channels set aside for premium sports. (named HDSP1-8, the regular SD ones are named SPO1-59) Since the events usually aren't all on at the same time they are shared by NHLCI, NFLST, NBALP, MLBEI, Nascar HotPass and something else. (NCAA i think)

I'm not sure that i've ever seen more than 5 of the HD channels being used at a time but thats just because there may not have been more than 5 events at once while I was paying attention.

I would suspect that those 8 share bandwidth. You will never see all 8 up at the same time. In the same way, Bell has ~16 HD channels (6 MLBEI, 2 NCAA, 4 NHLCI (last year, maybe 6 this year), at least 4 NFL ST, NASCAR Hot Pass - no idea), set aside for premium sports, but you will never see them all up at once.

So there are people who buy more than one! Hey Shednblues it's guys like you that tell Bell it is ok to keep doing this ;) More HD channels, IF that is true, doesn't justify this price difference. I would think Bell would have a huge increase in subscribers if they offered the all in one package, I know 10 guys alone who say that is the only reason they aren't with them.

I know I am but I just love sports too much and its great picking the games I want to watch.
You're right on all points and I have been p****d with this ripoff before you started this thread. I am going to cancel nfl and tell BEV why although will it help? Now I wil be paying them $400 per year for nhl and mlb with no sunday ticket. But what's my alternative...I'm never going back to Shaw. I may cancel mlb next year as its value during the summer is low when there are so many other things to do. I will not be cancelling Center Ice.

I'd switch tomorrow if EV offered something even reasonably close. I'm in a non-upgraded Cogeco area and we have 0 dedicated HD super sports pack channels. But you simply can't beat the $30 a month even if its all in SD.

Just a thought....find a Bell contact email....tell them that you think its retarded they charge so much and should think of bundling...You never know the more people who do this the more chance it will happen. Especially now that Bell has new ownership...

I sent them 2 or 3 emails about 6 months ago and I could tell by the verbage that the responses were coming from India and they had no idea what i was talking about. I wish i still had the emails ... it was more than comical.
