Bell TV custom mags Show and Extra folding

The January 2009 issue of Show will be the last.

Show and Extra, the English- and French-language custom magazines published by Spafax Canada for Bell, are closing. Thanks to MyHogtown for the tip.

As is often the case with custom magazines, the closures are the result of a change in marketing strategy at the client company, in this case Bell.

Jennifer Warren, the magazine's editor-in-chief, sent a note to subscribers today annoucing the decision:

"It is with great sadness that I'm writing to inform you that the January 2009 issues of SHOW and EXTRA will be our last. The magazines have been incredibly successful and our client, Bell TV, has been thrilled with the results over the past two years. We appreciate your contribution to these award-winning publications. The decision to cease publishing was a difficult one and was taken due to a corporate change in direction for Bell's marketing communications."
Show and Extra were published monthly and delivered about 800,000 BellExpressVu customers.

Maybe now after 6 requests I'll finally stop getting this in the mail :)

Also, maybe Bell will stop billing people the extra $2/mth at random intervals when it is supposed to be included in the package. :)

I can't say I'm surprised nor am I sorry to see it go. The content really wasn't all that useful other than the 1.5 pages of movie listings. Maybe others found it better, but I didn't.

With EPG, barker channels and the internet, I'm not the least bit surprised.

I'm sure the mag was a money maker in the pre-epg, pre net days but times change!

I won't miss Bell TV Magazine. I usually only spent about 5 minutes glancing through it each month. Bell should spend the money saved on improving their signal on 91.

I think most people I spoke to only liked the fact it had a listing of ALL the Bell TV channels.

Haha, I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I wouldn't have minded paying, if I had received it. We never had 1 magazine delivered even though it was included free of charge...

I have a stack of old Bell ExpressVu/TV magazines that are from 2005 which I've only read once. This months issue was read more because I was bored one night. I'm not upset nor suprised that this would happen. Reminds me of PrimeTime magazine in the 80s going belly up. No one seems to read print in this day of internet media.

I've received a few magazines over the years but haven't read a single one. Won't miss that they don't come anymore.

They started billing me $2 a month again for it last month. A few emails took care of it.

I never read it and won't miss it. I did have a hassle to get a credit when they started to charge me for it though.

Thank god this waste of paper is folding. What a waste of trees. When this rag comes in the mail at our house, it goes straight to the recycling box without even opening a page. I also had to call Bell last month because I noticed that on my monthly bill, they charged the usual $2.00 then neglected to give the usual $2.00 credit. They corrected it immediately and blamed it on a computer glitch. Wonder how many customers checked their bills last month.....

Hmmm, how is Jennifer Warren going to afford her hair gel now? I have never seen a more unbecoming photo of a professional before in my life. It is like she had a bad high school photo sitting around and just said, "here... use this!" Not to mention that her creepy photo took as much of the page as her editorial each month...

Perhaps they are "going another direction" because too many people noticed that Bell was scamming them by tacking on that two bucks and called to drop the charge. Was the $2 the test to see if people would notice?:o

Sadly, I don't think that we will see the $2 savings on our bills even though it was considered part of a package.

My current bill (yesterday) shows the $2 charge for the mag and a $2 credit, so it looks like they are showing this as a new separate item so that when it stops coming in the mail, the charge and credit will both disappear but the "programming" charge will remain.

It has always been like that , Bell would charge $2 and then would give credit for $2 , at least on my bill.

I agree, it has always been listed seperatly, although not EVERY bill had the credit.

Hmm, not in my case. The only times it appeared as an entry were the 3 months (over the last 2 years or so) that they also did not include the credit and I had to call in for it. My current bill was the first and only bill that had both entries (charge and credit).

I had mine showing the $2 charge and then a $2 credit. A few months back the credit stopped. I had to cancel the subscription.
