Bell Reception in the USA discussion

As already stated, I doubt there is one. I have heard lots of reports of people with no reception. It is also likely that only half the stations at 91 will be available. I've even heard of people trying out 10' dishes in Texas and getting marginal results. *C is still the best option.

The technology at the receiving end has not really changed much. Satellites have become more powerful but have also been given tighter patterns, which results in lost signals in out of market areas. Tighter encoding used on HD channels also make signals more difficult to receive.

Yeah, I think they're restricted because of the CRTC, right?

Bell TV could be fined hugely for it.

Still goes against the agreement that you make as a customer when you sign up with Bell TV.

So, is it illegal to pick up pirated US signal (and not be subscribed) while in Canada?

Well, no because the CRTC has no say in the US, that's FCC territory.

Pirating, by definition, is illegal, but yes, it's been illegal to receive Dish and DirecTV signals in Canada for years, even if you pay, but that's not the topic of this thread, so please let's stay on topic of BTV in the US.

I think that Cogeco has systems in areas that surround the City of Toronto in the 905.

I spent several hours last year in Mesa, AZ trying to hook up BTV for my snowbird parents - no luck. The other Canadians all had StarChoice....

Not that it matters to me, but people here are giving this person tips on how to break the law - maybe not a good thing. ;)

Contact a provider in the USA to get Dish network. Or go OTA, unless you want the cable channels.

Really? If this is the case I know a few folks that vacation around said parts and would love to hear this news.

I don't think any 'laws' are being broken, just BTV's AUP (Acceptable Use Policy)
Bit of a difference between 'moral' and 'legal'.

The case may be different going the other way, as in US provider subbed in Canada, but to my knowledge, OK to have a Canadian sub in the U.S. as now US laws forbid it, only the providers policies and they differ vastly amongst BTV and SD.

Personally, I would just simply call up a US Cable or Satelitte company, like Comcast, Dish Network, DirecTV, etc, instead of going through Bell TV and doing it the "illegal" way.

If you were to watch TV with a US company, you could watch your TV shows without simsubs. And you would also get a wide variety of channels that aren't available in Canada, such as TNT, FX, MTV America, ESPN, Versus, Comedy Central, Disney Channel & ABC Family (for the kids :P), the original TBS, and a whole bunch more, just to name a few.

And the good thing is, you can still keep in touch with Canadian news, by simply going to CTV.ca (or any other news channel), and watch on the web :D

OnlineLC:

Do you have the footprint for 91W? It's probably the same or close to 82, but would like to know.

Thanks
