Bell Mobility - Stom 2 V.S. BB 9700 V.S. Motoblur

My contract with Bell Mobility will be renewed soon.

I hate my htc touch as its a slow dinosaur phone.

I was deciding between BB storm 2 and BB 9700 initially. I wanted to go with 9700 since I don't know how typing on storm 2 would be, though I like its big screen. Plus, most of the reviews haven't said too many good things about its touch screen experience.

But 9700 is small and the keys are soo close that I'm not sure if I like that about the phone. i.e. not as convenient to type on that qwerty either compared with the previous BB I used.

Today at the store I saw Motoblur from Motorolla and it looks like it has everything I wanted i.e. a big screen and a good slide down keyboard. However, its running android and I'm not sure how good the software will be in terms of its functionality compared to BB.

Can anyone please suggest which one to consider/not to consider from their experience and why?

Only if the slider was out on bell

Depends on what your aims are.

If you have a work e-mail account and need to check it frequently, get the Bold 9700.

But if you want a good web browser, strong third-party apps and a modern touch interface, get an Android phone. But if you can hold out, get the HTC Legend; it should be coming soon and will be a much better phone than both your existing HTC Touch or the Motorola Dext you're looking at. It's faster, has a newer version of Android (2.1 versus 1.5 on the Dext) and is an extremely polished hardware design.

We're not exactly sure when Bell will pick it up, but it could be in the next few weeks.

Also, you could always wait and see what Apple unveils at its event on June 7th. The next iPhone should have an extremely high-res display, a front camera for video chat, and a bigger battery.

Well I can wait out two months maybe, sure. I wouldn't mind waiting for 3 months if I know that it will get me the BB Slider.

I don't use it for work but for my personal email, and lot of web browsing/texting and on the go applications such as news, forums and sometimes remote desktop, etc.

I like Motorolla Android's keyboard. One thing I know now is that I don't want bold 9700. Its screen is tooooo small and the keys are too congested together.

Lets see what the IPhone and HTC Legend have to bring.

Does anyone know when is BB SLider coming out? Also, can anyone please comment on their experience with the STORM 2?

Thanks in advance

For your purposes, sounds like you don't want any BlackBerry.

I've used the Storm2 (in fact, I reviewed it), and just... no. RIM got the idea in its head that people only missed the click-down motion with physical buttons, and so you get a touchscreen phone that takes a lot more effort to work. Typing on a Storm2 is like the worst of both worlds.

The BlackBerry 9800 (the touch slider) could reach the US as soon as June, but whether it'll show up in Canada at the same time or on Bell, we don't know. I'm hesitant to recommend it, though. It'll drop the click-down screen and use a real QWERTY keyboard, but BlackBerry OS 6.0 looks like the proverbial lipstick on the pig. It's more touch-friendly and has a new browser, but a lot of it is just prettier.

One thing I've found with the iPhone's touchscreen keyboard is that it's currently the most intuitive on-screen keyboard I know. It still takes a bit of familiarization, but you can be extremely fast, especially if you use auto-correction to your advantage.
