This may be a dumb question, but here gos.

My son and his girlfriend have a satellite Bell dish and receiver (she owns them)

They recently bought a new HDTV ... and now need a satellite HD receiver.

Called Bell and they said they don't sell or rent "just" receiver, must get dish

and receiver.

Is there somewhere he can just buy a HD satellite receiver that will work?

You might have some luck with the buy and sell section in this forum.
Craigslist and ebay are also possibilities.
Good luck.

Also, make sure your son's dish is configured properly. Bell has their HD channels on sat 82w. If the dish was bought from bell in the last few years, it would be a dual-satellite dish...but probably only came with one lnb. Some things that would need to be considered to convert a one sat dish to bell's dual sat (91w and 82w)is:

- DISH (Should have a short arm with a "Y-yoke" at the end so it can fit another LNB on the arm) Also may need to look at dish configuration so that it lines up with 82.
- Purchase a 2nd dual LNB. Can be found same places you are looking for receiver...ebay, craigslist or sat shops.
- # of receivers or type. If your son goes with a dual tuner HD receiver or wants to have satellite to more then 1 receiver...requires either more lines from satellite and/or a multiswitch.
- Switches. At the very least...if sending both 91 and 82 to one HD satellite, your son will need an SW21 to combine both sat's onto one line going into the house into the receiver.

Sorry to add more confusion...just be terrible to put out the money on an HD receiver and not have any HD channels! Lots of info on this forum to get ya setup.

Same price for complete system as for receiver only. Save the parts you don't use in case something goes, sell them or let the installer keep them.
Ask bell about the free HD upgrade install. HDTV will not show HD satellite picture without the free satellite upgrade.

You could probably find a used receiver on the Kijiji's site from your town.

Before you get the receiver, or send money make sure you call EV to verify that the person who sells you the receiver did call EV and that you can activate it (if they didn't call you won't be able to)

receiver alone is 499.

dish is disposable, 25.00 max.
lnb is 15.00
SW44 is 100.00

or get the package that includes all for the same 499.
