Bell Express Vu 3100 Rx.

Hi People

Can you tell me if any of you have experienced a problem with the 3100 receiver not working on the new High Def. Tv's.I just bought a LN19A450 LCD Samsung Tv and is having problems with the volume.I have to turn it all the way up to really get it to a desired listening level.I appears it is been loaded down by the receiver.Are those receivers compatable with this type of Tv.I plan to get a 52 in" plasma or LCD.Will this be a problem with those also or do I have to upgrade to another higher level receiver.

Does the volume have to be turned up high for other devices?
Many people use SD boxes (3100, 2700, 5900, etc...) on HD tvs, so they are capable of working on them, but you obviously won't get the benefits of a HD picture...
P.S If you post this question in the Bell TV forum, you will have a better chance of people reading, and replying...
 
How do you connect the 3100 to the TV? Check the cable connection first or use another set of composite cable.

The 3100 is only Std Def. To realize the full benefit of a 52" plasma, you need a HD receiver.

the 3100 is Standard Definition (SD) receiver so you will need to get an HD receiver (9242 or 6141) if you want to watch Bell TV in HD.

I do not want the High Def. all I wanted to do was get the standerd def. to work.I can program the the bell remote, apparently it does not recognize any of the codes in the bell manual.I can chanel up or down , but I think i need to get the access code of the samsung LN19A450 to be able to get into the remotes brain to control volume etc. am i correct.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to program the remote of the 3100 to control the Samsung TV. Your 3100 is quite a bit older than the LN19A450 so the codes listed in your manual may not work. In the manual of the newer receiver (e.g. 9242), there are quite a few more codes listed for Samsung TV. Try these codes to see if they work for you.

I am using an older 3100 receiver on a new Samsung LN32A550 Tv until I decide whether to get a HD PVR or 6141 receiver for this unit. The receiver works well but is obviously underserving the TV with its Standard definition feed. It can only be connected with RG6 coax cable as there are no other outlet ports on the receiver. The volume is fully functional and scalable.
If you still have your 3100 owners manual reference page 3-10 for mating your Sammy to the 3100. FrankL in his post may have given you the codes needed to do this. If these did not work then you may need to scan the TV with the remote to automatically detect the code. To do this;
- Turn on the TV
- Hold down the TV button (MODE) on the remote for 3 seconds. Release the button when the other MODE buttons light up. The TV Mode button will flash. You are now in the address programming format.
-Press the POWER button on the remote
-Press the up or down button on the remote. The key backlight remains on during the search. When the correct code is found your TV will power off.
-Push the # button on the remote to lock in your code.
Your volume should respond on the TV to your 3100 remote volume commands.

Bent Dish, when you say the 3100 ONLY has Coax output, you are of course referring to the fact that your 3100 is already using the Composite for feeding to another device, right.?
 
I noticed that you have to put the volume higher to get a good sound when you hook a SD receiver on a HD TV...

When I got my first HD TV (and was waiting for the BellTV guy to come and install the HD receiver) I used my 5900 on my Sharp Aqos 32" TV. I had to put the volume around 40-45 to get good sound, and now that we connected the 9200 on that TV we put the volume around 20, sometimes even lower.

When I had troubles with my 9242 receiver I had to connect my 2X5900 to replace the 9242 while waiting for the replacement unit and I noticed the same problem. My living room TV (which is using the 9242) is a 52" Sharp Aquos

In both case I was using BellTV RCA (red-white-yellow) cables
 
Pinza is correct. I never noticed the RCA composite jacks or the S Video jack on the 3100 and to be honest with everyone I simply used the coax jack that was used on the old tv and reconnected the new Tv this way. I had to go look now that everyones pointed this out. Thats what you get for being lazy. Sorry folks.
My volume is usually around 14 on the Samsung and I believe I have the new TV set for SRS sound but I had to customize the sound on the built in equalizer to give the set some bass otherwise it sounds tinny and echoey.
I cant believe I never checked for a S Video jack before posting....Doooh!:o
