being taken to court by creditor?

last week i got a solicitor letter stating a claim for a court hearing was in the post.

I have an old account with a well known store recently taken over by a high street lender(think Abbey) Since September I got behind so asked to make reduced payments. They sent me a expenditure sheet and asked for proof of income etc. This was sent, and I kept paying token payments.

Although this is my debt i feel the creditor has been unfair as they did not get back to me once i sent all the info they needed, instead they have gone to court, and put costs on my debt.if i admit the debt i will get a ccj. I have had this account for 10 years, and haven't touched it for 4 years, and haven't missed any other payments.
can the court decide the creditor has not followed their own guidelines in terms of reduced payments, and throw the case out? surely court should be the last option? i have no issue with paying the debt, but i don't want a ccj.

You need professional advice. I'd contact a free debt helpline, they were great when I was stuck with debt. Sorry for not knowing more.
