Beginning Symptoms

I woke up this morning with the sensation of having a huge wad of mucus in the back of my throat and spent the rest of the morning trying to cough it up, which didn't help much. Now my chest is tight My cough sounds wet at times, but isn't productive. I don't feel bad but not great at the same time, so I know it is probably the start of something. I got over having bronchitis and laryngitis about three weeks ago and my allergies have been going crazy since then. My other symptoms include a slight headache, stuffy nose (expecially in the morning), dull ear pain, and just feeling off. I don't have a fever, but I don't run fevers. My question is does anyone have any ideas on how to break up this mucus? What does this sound like the beginning of?

It is probably not a mucus ball - as you suspect; if it were, gravity would have pulled it down to the esophagus, and into the stomach. What is it then? Probably a swollen gland, and the other problems, combine to give you the feeling of a blockage.

When I felt like that my doctor recommended that I try Mucinex DM. He told me it's the best over the counter med he could recommend. It's owrth giving it a try. Hot shouwers usually help to open up the nasal cavities so you can breath better also.

I second the musinex recommendation. Also, keep drinking lots of fluid. That will help thin out any mucus above and beyond what the meds can do, and also will help keep your throat clear. I find chamomile tea to be a life saver when I am sick and congested.
