I'm 20 years old and have always wanted a street bike. I know how to ride a dirt bike and shift and everything. How different is a street bike? How can I convince my mom to let me keep it in the garage/driveway cause she is against it? Any recommendations on a starter bike? I like the Kawasaki 500r.

Regarding dirtbikes if you are used to a good amount of power under your butt then the ninja 500 would be a good match for you, as far as your momma goes, tell her you are getting this bike and if she dont like it she can kick you out. You and I both know she wont do that because you're Hen-pecked.

There's no difference in riding a street bike. They shift the same the only difference is cornering you lean more than steer but it comes naturally once you start. The 500r is a pretty good choice for a first street bike.Once you've bought the bike she's not going to make you park it where it can be stolen mom's are just like that.

I agree with the guy about the 400sm. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was a kid. I motarded my XR650 and love it. I live in East Tennessee near 129 aka "the dragon" and Motards rule here. They are lightweight, easy to handle, torquey, and have low maintenance. Mine being a Honda thumper...I just keep the oil changed and she's good. Just another option to keep in mind. Also they dont look as dangerous when you pull up to show mom. Have fun and be safe.

best bet if your used to dirtbikes, get a dirtbike, suzuki drz 400sm is a great bike, iv had 2 and they never let me down, ride the crap outta them and just stick them in the garage with very little maintence. as for your mom, if shes against it because safety like mine is, just let her know nothing will happen if your being a safe and responsible rider. good luck
