My anxiety started in 2007. I went through a few months feeling tired and uninterested. One day it was like all the buttons in my head were pushed and I went into full-blown anxiety mode. Not a single attack, but a constant anxiety. As someone who already has OCD, my doctor sent me to a psychopharmacologist who prescriped Luvox. Even after 5 months, each dose put me into a haze. While on vacation I got food poisining and couldn't hold any food down for two days. It probably prevented the absorbtion of the Luvox, which has a very short half life. I'm so thankful that I had some Ativan in my carry-on for the flight home.
When I returned, the psychopharmacologist put me on Prozac. Due to it's long half life, he says it's a bit safer. The first 10 days at 10 mg weren't too bad. Just a little extra anxiety but that's it. Then he upped the Prozac to 20 mg. That gave me lots of anxiety and sexual dysfunction (10 mg had virtually no negative sexual effects). My next appointment is in two weeks. For now he wants me back on 10 mg. My question is if anybody takes that as a maintenance dose. Everything I read says that 20 mg is standard for anxiety.
