I have recently bought a new bike with disc brakes. obviously they need to bed in but i have been riding for around 1 hour now, constanlty accelerating and braking hard but they dont seem to be very effective, if not useless altogether! they make a grinding noise and slowly come to a stop in around 5-10 metres. is this normal, how long does the process take and what is the best method? many thanks in advance!

Please be more specific. What brand, or make are the brakes? Are they mechanical or hydraulic?

you may need to adjust the brake pad or more of the disc itself... i have that problem with my downhill bike but that's only because the disc itself is just a little bit curved so it rubs on the brakes sometimes, so first adjust the two, maybe even reset the brake pads (if you know how to do that) if that doesn't work either you might need a replacement because not every disc is perfectly flat... have questions about resetting the pads let me know [email protected]
