Becoming a single non-custodial parent while in the Army through divorce?

If I get a divorce while already enlisted in the Army (Active Duty), and my husband keeps the children living with him, will I be required to do anything special, such as give up custody (beyond the fact that they live with him), or anything? We have 2 children. Would I be forced to leave the Army?

I would happily pay child support, and see them whenever possible on vacations. He owns our home, makes the money and pretty much pulls all the strings, so I feel it would be appropriate for our children to keep living with him.

I know there are many men in the Army who have children living with their mother, so I would imagine it's allowed, but not sure exactly how being a single parent complicates my enlistment (professionally, not on a personal level; that I already know). Would the Army say I have too many children once I'm not married anymore? Would they make me give up the rights that civilian non-custodial parents usually have?

If it makes a difference, we have lived our entire marriage solely on my husband's income, so we can definitely show that his job and my military income can support our two children. I am currently Reserves, but am considering going Active so that I can support myself after the divorce. Will it be harder/easier for me to go Active before or after the divorce?

Thanks.

Thank you.
