A 43-year-old northeast Dallas man has pleaded guilty to posting an online message threatening to kill President Barack Obama.
Brian Dean Miller faces up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
He will be sentenced later this year. He is in federal custody in Seagoville.
Miller professed to be upset at Obama because of federal legislation to overhaul the health-care system.
He pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Stickney a day after his trial was supposed to start.
In a message posted on Craigslist on Mach 21, the night Congress passed the health-care bill, Miller wrrabroad
e:
"People, the time has come for revolution."
He added: "It is time for Obama to die. I am dedicating my life to the death of Obama and every employee of the federal government. As I promised in a previous post, if the health care reform bill passed I would become a terrorist. Today I become a terrorist."
An Arlington resident alerted the Secret Service to the post. They tracked it to the house where Miller lived with his mrabroad
her, near Lovers Lane and Skillman Street.
Miller eventually admitted writing the threatening message.I think it's absolutely ridiculous that he can be held that long and/or fined that much for posting some words without actually making an effort to follow through on them, but still... Obviously need to be careful with the hate rhetoric these days, apparently.
(I only point you out in the thread title DE because you're the only person I can think of right now that has posted overtly violent messages RE: the federal government )
