The program guide on my new 9242 PVR indicates that the HD broadcast of this game is not available in BC. I assume that this is some form of blackout. I assume that I will be able to see it on the TSN A channel (402) in SD.

I thought that the blackout rules were that it only extends to a distance of about 80km (except in Sask) from the staduium. I am 1 40 min ferry ride and over 100 km form there.

Is there any point in complaining to BEV?

Garry

If you're within the blackout radius (35 miles or 56 km) and the game is in fact blacked out, you shouldn't be getting the game either in HD or SD. Although in the past BEV hasn't blacked out the HD feed since they were unable to do it regionally. (Maybe they can now?)

Channel 402 will air alternate programming.

Anyway, since you say you're outside the radius, you should get the game. Usually, if a game is blacked out for you, you will see a circle with a slash through it somewhere on the "info" screen. (At least that's what happens on my 6100.)
If you don't see that symbol anywhere you should be okay. If you do, I would call BEV.

BEV never follows those rules so what they will do is just blackout all of BC. Unlike Shaw who will blackout only who they are supposed to--as does Star Choice.

Well they should follow them. If they don't, the league and/or TSN should be contacted.

A couple of years ago when BEV blacked out a TSN game in Hamilton that they shouldn't have (Hamilton hasn't blacked out a game since 2003) I emailed Chris McCracken at the CFL communication dep't. He replied that they had been having problems with TSN and BEV blackouts and they were working on correcting the problem. It hasn't happened again since.

Blackout games may be shown on TSN.CA. I watched a couple of blackout games there last year. Not bad with high speed enhanced but games are not in HD on the website. I think the blackout will be lifted on Friday.

The program info says "game not available in the BC area".
That seems like a weird way of saying "the entire province of BC", so I have a feeling it really means the BC Lions blackout area/radius. ie: 35 miles

The game was blacked out here in the Okanagan. So, it means the ENTIRE BC area--at least in the Okanagan, which is 250 miles away from Vancouver. Is Bell allowed to do this? I have Shaw HD as well so I was able to catch the game regardless. I'm guessing that the game was blacked out in Vancouver with Shaw.

They shouldn't be allowed to.
I would contact Bell to find out why they blacked it out, then the CFL and/or TSN.

I watched a bit of the BC/Sask game on tsn.ca - it was blacked out here (BC). OK but I couldn't get the full screen to work - I'd get an image and it would just freeze, while the audio played on.

I watched the game here (Go RIDERS) on the Sunshine Coast on TSNHD just fine. I guess there is some weirdness in the way Bell applies blackout rules. I hope it doesn't change for me.

I'd contact the CFL head office and let them know what's going on. No point even contacting Bell, because that would be a fruitless effort.
