BlackBerry may not be facing the best of times right now, but there are hardly any messaging apps in the market that are as functional as its BB Messenger. BBM is keeping BlackBerry in the hearts and minds of users across the world, especially now that it is usable on both Android and iOS devices as well. With its latest update, the messaging service is about to extend its reach even further.
Within the next few hours, Slash Gear reports, BB is going to start rolling out an update to its iOS app which will allow it to finally run on Wi-Fi only models of Apple's iPads. Considering that a large number of iPad users work with Wi-Fi only models of the slate, BBM usage is expected to go up significantly with its latest roll out.
What makes BBM perfect for use on the Wi-Fi only slate is the fact that it uses Pin numbers instead of cellular numbers to connect one messaging user with another. Armed with their individual Pin numbers, users are free to connect and chat with their contacts even on their Wi-Fi only tablets.
With BBM's popularity high, it will be interesting to see what part the messaging system plays in keeping BlackBerry afloat in the future. Even though its handsets and its operating system are not doing as well as was hoped, the Canadian tech giant's messaging service is functional and always growing in popularity.
Whether it is enough to win BlackBerry some hefty profits and keep the tech major a favorite in the hearts and minds of users, the coming time should tell. We will be on the lookout for more breaking news from the house of the Canadian tech giant - stay with us on KYMI.
