Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but BBC2 are showing a double bill of John Wayne films on Saturday 6th March, starting with 'The High and the Mighty' at 2pm, followed by 'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon' at 4.20pm (this has been shown numerous times before, but still a great film)

It's so good to see BBC2 making an effort like this with the old films instead of showing the usual filler material like Animal Park :)

Haha, yeah I know. The BBC have very little imagination it seems when it comes to film scheduling. A great effort for Sat 6th March though, I've not seen BBC2 clear it's entire afternoon schedule for old films in a long time. Hopefully a sign of things to come fingers crossed :)

OMG I love John Wayne, and they are films I haven't seen!. as another poster said, lets hope its a sign, eventhough Television was filled with John Wayne over Christmas and New Year!

The High and the Mighty is great. Tense drama on a flight over the Pacific in 1954 from Honolulu to San Francisco. A classic John Wayne film.

Im not a huge fan of the westerns, but many of his 40s and 50s films were very good that weren't westerns.

Yes, I love James Stewart, such a great actor. I'd love to see one of his Hitchcock films on TV again, followed by one of his 60's films such as The Flight of the Phoenix which is an awsome 'later day' Jimmy Stewart film :)

There's always a damn John Wayne movie at least twice a week!

Seriously, not a week goes by without Channel 5, Film 4 or BBC2 showing at least 2 John Wayne movies! Enough!!!

Blimey this takes me back! When I was a kid growing up in the 70's there was always at least one old film on BBC2 on a Saturday afternoon. I used to watch it with my Gran beofre turning over to watch the wrestling. It was annoying when they clashed as there weren't VCR's back then.
There were some ropey ones on of course but I saw some great old films back then and unlike today they weren't repeated very few months. Happy days! :)

Well at least some of John Wayne movies are entertaining.

I have quite a few in my collection cos the DVRAB are cheap enough to buy. The other day I watched The Fighting Kentuckian which although dated (more like a Saturday morning flick they used to show years ago) it was memorable because it was one of the rare films in which Oliver Hardy appeared without Stan Laurel.

Like Wayne himself said years ago, he only made family films cos being a family man himself, he provided entertainment for everyone and not just adults.
