Battery Question

The other day I noticed it took a little longer to fire up the bike (1198) than normal. Went for a ride, then stopped to get gas. Almost didn't want to start back up at the gas station, but did. Anyway, today I unhooked the bike from the trickle charger (I keep it on a charger after EVERY ride) in preparation to go out. ~15 minutes later I went to start it and it tried to turn over a couple times but that is it. Then it wouldn't even turn over after multiple attempts. Got mad...left the bike back on the charger. Came back later, took it off the charger and it fired right up. I went for a ride and came back and the battery read 12.5, 12.4, 12.3 then stabilized at about 12.3.

Seems like it is the battery?

I've only had it for one year and it is always on the charger. Granted this battery seems like 1/2 the size of any other bike I have had. I also have a scorpio alarm, but turn it off when it is back home. How long are you guys getting out of your batteries and does 12.3V seem low enough to be causing this? I hope it's nothing more after I said in another post I have "yet" to have a problem....

The '08 onwards battery was much smaller than the 14Ah in the '07. The 14 Ah is the cheap fix, having more CCA than the small 12 Ah.
If weight is an issue for you, the YTZ-10S is a powerful but compact solution, but not cheap.
I strongly recommend staying with Yuasa brand - others tend to be less reliable.

thanks for the help,

just installed a ytz-10s and so far so good. Shorter than the stocker but still fit in ok. Hopefully it will last a while other wise guess I'll try the 14 Ah. Why did they go to a 12 anyway? Just for weight?

I'm sure they justified it as a weight-saving measure, but WE know they were saving production costs.
Your YTZ-10S should last you for years if you have a good quality trickle charger like a C-Tek.
