when i start up my truck, my battery gauge needle will go to the left and stay there, even more so if i turn my lights on and when i start driving, it will go back to normal to the right but when it does so, i always hear a squeal.....also, my truck wouldnt start yesterday, i had it jumped and it started up and i let it run for about 5 mins. and then shut it off and then later on i came back out and tried to start it up again and nothing happened, didnt even turn over, no sound what-so-ever....im thinking dead battery or bad alternator or both......any ideas??

I would change the belt, and if the battery is 4 years old, I would change that

then run the car with the lights on, and rev the engine, if the lights brighten and dim with the engine revs= I would change the alternator too

sounds like alternator problems, because you are hearing squeals you should check for a loose alternator belt. the voltage regulator is built into the alternator, I would try tightening the belt first.

The squeal is the give away. Check the belt for wear and change it but it definitely needs to be tightened. Push down with your finger against the belt at the middle of the span between pulleys. You shouldn't be able to push more than 1/2 inch.
You also should have a full charge put on the battery. The alternator doesn't really like to charge a completely dead battery and usually complains by going bad.

sounds like the control modual

take the truck to autozone/oriellys and have them check your charging system they do for free
