I'm 17 years old. I'll be in my senior year in September. I want to play basketball next year, and the school is looking forward to my return (I didn't play junior year). I am the tallest person at my school, and I've always been the tallest in any group. Depending on who you ask, I'm between 6'5" and 6'7". I play at school as a center, which I hate, but when I play in college, I'll most likely play the three (small forward). If I play next year, I'm learning to play a center position that in college (hopefully Arizona State) I won't play unless I keep growing.

My question is: should I play knowing that I'm going to have to learn to play a different position from scratch in a year?
As far as college, my aim is Arizona State

Absolutely, Playing inside and learning proper foot work inside will only help you to become a more well rounded player, more versitile. If your playing at the three or four and you have a serious highth over your defender, there is a good chance your coach will set you up on the block and post him up, your high school experience will come back to help you! Become the most COMPLETE player you can be.

My question to you would be "is there any school recruiting you?" If there is one, you should listen to what their coaches tell you and do as they say. The answer to your question might depend on where you will go to play collegiate ball.

Even if you technically have to play center it doesn't necessarily have to hinder you playing style, if you can get the coach to incorporate you outside the post and you succeed out there then scouts should recognize your abilities as a forward. But working on your physic is the most important thing if your getting in to college basketball, you can teach skills but you can't teach athleticism.

No this year just do what you have to do what you do and be a center, then in the summer when you are preparing for college work on being a small forward or you could just ask your coach to be a small forward the same thing with me I was the tallest and my coach let me be the power forward instead of the center so either way it goes!
