Can someone take me through a description of the total basics about the --operational functions- of a car one needs to know to drive? i.e. Anything you have to operate or do while driving a car in typical traffic.

If not, is there someplace or some combined places I can find a complete guide to this online? :::

-Not- traffic rules [stop at red lights, you have to yield to turners] sort thing, but the actual mechanics and utility of operating a car [ you'll have to slow down abt this difference, go up to the crosswalk area at a light by aligning this way, then wait for turners, who will be coming whichever direction, before speeding up again to full speed.]

Things like using the rearview, looking behind you for other cars, aligning, perception, turning on headlights, turn signals, hand signls, watching and following/changing traffic speeds [like in a traffic jam] if this is different from normally changing speeds, how etc.

The reason I don't ask for traffic rules is, I can easily look those up, and I need them in application. Just things one would encounter in real traffic. Day, night, highway, small road. Looking out for pedestrians...

For instance, something like "You will need to look behind you when you are turning, ...[list continues]. Rearview mirrors let you see [these] directions, distances and are good for [these] circumstances. Backshield window is more direct and better for [these] circumstances and looking behind you. You typically use it when doing [x]. But it will take more time to turn around and look behind you."

General locations of the things I have to use in a car, too.

How do you learn perception and lining into a lane? I understand the height and weight of the model affects the car, driving, and perception, but am not complete as to exactly how.

Is there someplace or some combined places I can find a complete guide to this online?

Any help, even if not exhaustive, is much, much, much appreciated.

Also:

So it'll make some feel a little better to have this make sense some more, and also because there are some nasty people on Answers I need to address:

I am a very clear, bright, capable person and am looking to teach myself to drive. I don't want any answers telling me I need to just take a spin out in traffic or 'practice'. Those things will come later - I just need a list of things I will encounter which need doing.

Any other methods are out of the question. I will deal with teaching myself and the things I need to do/arrange to be able to practice and am capable of seeing what is handleable. I have very very specific reasons for not wanting to take a class or ask anyone to teach me. No, it is not personal resources or embarrassment or anything you could think of. It is a personal choice and non-negotiable decision and why I purposely did not learn to drive several years ago when I could have. There are not other ways to do this, and I will be making it work out so I am capable before driving anywhere remotely like a driver's test, so you don't need to worry about that. I am NOT, NOT, NOT looking for advice on how to learn to drive. Again, please, -no- comments, judgements on this, or I will flag you.

If you don't agree and don't want to help: move on.

-Again-,

If you are too lazy to write a real answer and just want to debate ['First-time drivers should x x x x.'] or post something silly and obviously not what I was asking: move on. I will flag or delete otherwise - you don't deserve the results from answering a question if you are sitting there trotting through things I explicity said were NOT the point of my question.
