Baseball Size Lump on Rib Cage?

Hi,

Some background information:
- 20 years old
- No prior broken bones/illnesses/sprains/fractures, etc..
- Smoker for 3 years

I have a baseball size lump/mass right on top of my rib cage on the left side (for example, take a bunch of pencils lay them down [aka the ribs] and put a baseball right on top [aka the mass/lump].. that's what it's like). It's very hard, almost as if it is a bone, doesn't move no matter what stance I'm in or how I'm sitting or laying down. Very, very noticeable. Looks like I have a rib cage distortion because the one side is perfectly normal looking while the other looks odd and lumpy and uneven. Anyways, I noticed it when I was roughly 16 years old. I had it checked by the doctor who actually said that the other side felt indented. Also asked if I had any prior injuries that may have caused the awkward formation. Obviously, I haven't. Sent me to xrays and everything came back fine. So, it's not with my bones.

There is no pain.. unless I'm in some weird pose (ex. exercising) but it's not throbbing or sharp pain it feels as though it get's cramped and I have to move right away (kinda like when you feel your foots about to cramp up and you gotta move it to relief the feeling). Lastly, I'm not too sure if it's grown or not.. the other day I was feeling it and it seemed a tad larger but I might just be paranoid. It's not larger in a drastic measure if it is larger at all.

Just wondering everyone's thoughts on it.
What it might be? Is it really that serious to make a fuss about it again to my doctor?

I'd just like to say that sometimes I do actually think the other side is indented.. but according to the xrays my bones are fine, lol!

Thanks!
B.
