Baseball is a sport of traditions. Why does MLB seem hell bent on eliminating them?

Case in point: Cincinnati was the scene of the opening game in all of baseball for about a century in order to mark the significance of the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. Even though there were usually other games taking place on Opening Day, the first pitch was intentionally moved back a few minutes in Cincinnati to keep the tradition alive. Why have we gotten away from something as traditional and longstanding as that?

Before anyone accuses me of pro-Reds bias, I'm a Tigers fan, but I'm a firm traditionalist as well.
