BAS STATEMENT QUERY PLEASE HELP?

Hi are you able to hand in a bas statement late? If so are there any penalties and how long can I hold off... (little broke at the moment) Also is a bas statement me just filling out how much Ive earnt and paying the tax part of it?

Any assistance will be muchly appreciated
