Barely any sound coming out of my Jensen UV8, connected to an iPhone 3GS?

Well, I connected my iPhone 3GS with Apple's AV component cable, and I am only getting a barely hearable sound out of my front speakers. Also, turning up/down the volume won't do a thing... Is there any way to fix this? Btw, I connected it to the AUX1 (RCA) thingy of the receiver.
