Baking soda and acne?

I heard baking soda cures acne, but it hasn't for me yet, probably cos I have been using it with a bar of soap (which I suspected made my skin worse). So today is the first day just doing baking soda twice a day, no bar of soap and I haven't seen much improvement yet.

Should this eventually improve my skin not using the bar of soap any more? Also, I stopped masterbating a week ago from today, but that hasn't made a HUGE difference yet. Is that going to help?

Baking Soda is an aweful thing to put on your skin. It is abrasive and cheap which is not a good thing. If you want to try something new, try tea tree oil. It is a natural antiseptic. I've had acne for 15 years and there is no quick fix. The Tea tree oil will help dry them out though.

There is no cure for acne at all (well, except for time), just long-term treatment. Baking soda can work temporarily due to the drying effect (it's basically where the "toothpaste" cure comes from since that contains baking soda) but in the long run it will throw off the ph balance of your skin since baking soda is alkaline. If you need a home remedy, apple cider vinegar diluted with equal parts water works fairly well, for milder types of acne.
 
Actually, time has proven itself as of late to not fit into the 'cure' category either.

:( Sad huh? We're starting to see more and more people get acne in their late 30's and even 40's.

As long as theres Accutane, theres hope. ;)

I agree with the above mentioned post. The baking soda is cheap so is really very risky to use it on your skin instead of it you can use tea tree oil.
 
Snake Oil means it's a fake cure. In the old days there was "Snake Oil" product that would sell that could cure everything. See my point?
Baking Soda won't do anything for your skin, except dry it out on a unreasonable level.
Talk to a Doc, get a prescription.
 
hahah! so you think arm and hammer made up all these reviews about it curing acne just to sell more arm and hammer baking soda at $1 a piece?

:p So far it's been working better than Proactiv did for me and I was on Proactiv two years! Not to mention Proactiv dried out my skin a lot worse.

Since I got off the bar of soap and stuck to the baking soda only the past two days my skin has improved a bit. Also, just today I made a yolk mask to tighten the pores and remove black heaRAB - black heaRAB lost most of their blackness after that. As far as the egg white goes, I microwaved it and ate it for the proteins.

I think I will do this mask at least every 3 days. :]
