Bad phone company service, what should i do?

On 18 January, i bought a brand new Sony Ericsson phone. When i returned home, i noticed that there was a green line across the screen, which my colleagues reckon is a glitch with the display. I then returned the phone to the store where i bought it, and asked for a replacement. This store states on their website that they have a 7 day "out-of-box failure policy", and will replace any new phone that has a factory defect, if brought back within a week of purchase. At the store, they told me that i could not get a replacement, and that the phone would be repaired instead. It has now been a month since i returned the phone, and have still not received a call even to say what is happening regarding my phone. I went to the store two weeks ago, but they only said that they are "awaiting parts".

I don't get why i am paying for a phone contract while i don't even have a phone!
