We painted a spare bedroom with 2 coats of Behr Deep Base Interior Flat paint. Prior to that we prepped everything; washed walls, sanded walls, taped off walls, closed off vents, plastic set the closet door, ect.. We also put a de humidifier in there and a couple of fans with the windows open.

Unfortunately, when we applied our first coat of behr paint, there was no problem. It wasn't until the second coat of paint (8-10 hours later) that we had issues. A foul smell began.

Amazingly we were able to cover all 4 walls (11x11x8) in our room with 1 can of paint. We had bought 3.

We are in trouble!!!

It has been 4 weeks and you could still smell the foul smell and nothing helped.

We tried... onions, baking soda, vinegar, water & bread, coal, wood chips... you name it. Nothing has helped.

Behr agreed to pay for someone to fix it.

We finally, after 4 weeks had someone come and paint primer on the walls.

Zinnser Primer/Sealer and there is only a 25% difference.

The guy from the shop says that we shouldn't need two coats... but I can still smell the foul odor.

What should we do?????????????????????????????????????

It is in everything. We've steam cleaned the carpets, washed all of our clothing and bedding (all of our clothing still has paint smell) and we have had 12 fans going in the home pushing air in from one side and going out... we tried all different ways.

I am thinking about suing Behr.

It is even in our couches... and I haven't had a full night sleep in 4 1/2 weeks.
We were refunded for the paint the day after.

Behr agreed to 350.00 reimbursement for someone else to paint over with something else not bad... and 150.00 for old paint and new paint (but they want it to be theirs).
They even sent us a warranty letter.
