I recently bought a Sony Ericsson J300i, among the reasons I settled for that model was its low price, lack of camera, had the most useful functions, and its promising battery. A good 300h standby-time and 7h talk-time seemed pretty enough.
Anyway, I got home from the store, and eager to try it out, I inserted the battery and tried to turn it on. To my big surprise, it did turn on. My previous experience with new phones is that the battery usually comes totally un-charged. I thought about this for a while, thinking that I should probably fully de-charge the battery before charging it, to avoid "battery-memory" and loss of battery "stamina". But then again, as said, with every other phone I've bought, the battery always needed to be charged for something like 12 hours before using the phone.
I searched the included manual for an answer, and it said not to use the phone until charging the battery for at least 4 hours. Said and done, I charged the battery overnight, and here I am, with a standby-time not anywhere near 300 hours, which is about twelve days (and nights). On my first charge the battery lasted four days until the phone shut itself off. Okay, I did use the phone quite a bit, and I recieved three or four calls. But the phone was shut off at night and I was using the "battery-saving-turn-off-screen-while-not-using-it-thingy-function". I'm now on my second charge and after about 36 hours the battery-o-meter is about 3/4'ths full.
Did I completely mess up my battery by not de-charging it from the beginning or did I revieve a crappy battery? Does anyone else have similar experiences with this kind of problem? Or is this as good as it's gonna get? By the way, it's the retail battery I'm using... "BST-36... Li-Polymer 3.6V...750mAh" it says on the back
